The Racecourse Bar and Restaurant is located in the Praça Santos Dumont, n. 108 - Gávea (Low Gávea). The phone there is (21) 2294-0095.
It is a very traditional bar frequented by the bohemian Low Gávea south of Rio. Youth and families mingle looking for good food and tradition of the Bar Racecourse. With a simple and no frills decor, the bar has an atmosphere of nostalgia.
We went on a Saturday for a family lunch. We arrived at around 13:30 and the Hippodrome was packed. We queued for about 20 minutes to vacate a table for nine people inside the restaurant, we had requested.
The specialty of the place are meats, especially steak. However, we ask also the traditional stew that gives 5 people eat quietly. The value is R $ 102.00. Comes with some types of "meat pot", sausage and various vegetables such as carrots, potatoes, squash, sweet potatoes etc.. It also has banana and chayote. Well nice by the way!
The waiters are very kind and friendly, but were sweating to account for both people who had there, which makes the service a little slow. The floor is a bit greasy and the bathroom is in need of basic reform.
For those who want to give priority to drinking it is advisable to stay outside, which is more pleasant and quiet. It makes one to take chopps (£ 3.90) seeing the guys who is just down the street drinking standing in front of the restaurant Brazier.
We enjoyed the Bar Racecourse in particular the food, climate and traditional public that attends there and surely now turn to a different program. Instead of a family lunch on Saturday, we will get drunk at a happy hour of any day. Then post here (of course) as our new experience there, ok?
